A Prayer for Parents’ Sleepless Nights
It has been over a year since David and I became parents. We are soaking up every single moment and enjoying all the moments of parenthood. Our perfect baby gives us sleepless nights just like many other perfect babies out there. If you are struggling with sleepless nights of parenting like we do, please join us in lifting this prayer.
I pray that these words are helpful to you in your prayer life and your journey of parenting!
A Prayer for Parents’ Sleepless Nights
God who does not slumber,
I give you thanks for
this beautiful child in my arms,
Who is perfectly made in your image,
Who does not slumber,
just like you.
When I am woken up by her distressful cry in the middle of the night,
When I am rocking her in my desperate attempt to help her go back to sleep,
When my arms get heavy and my strength inevitably fails,
When every part of my body and soul is aching and burning,
When my love for this child
Is about to be succumbed to my unmet need for sleep,
Grant me your wisdom
To number my days.
Soon she will grow
To go to school
To have friends
To go to college
To have her own family.
And tonight will get us one day closer
To when she will no longer need me
To sleep
To feed
To live.
May this night be a reminder
That every moment is a blessing from above,
That every moment is one more opportunity to
draw her nearer,
keep her closer,
hold her tighter.
And may I rise with your strength
To help her experience once again, that
She is seen.
She is heard.
She is never alone.
Through countless days and forever more,
God, you will always hear our cry, and
You will always welcome us into your arms.
So my soul rests in your faithfulness.
Thanks be to God.
Amen.
